America, land of the free, home of the brave! The American flag is a symbol of our country that represents freedom, hope and unity. To see the flag flying above the rubble of tornado-stricken buildings, or over the collapsed twin towers of the World Trade Center, or over the Oklahoma Murrah Building after the bombing is a message to all. It is a message of hope for the future and a message of the unity we have as Americans to rebuild and go forward together hand in hand.
The flag is a symbol of the American spirit. It’s presence during times of war is a reminder to our soldiers of their love of their homeland and their unselfish passion in a cause they are willing to give their very lives for.
Whether at half-staff, or gallantly flying, or being folded and presented at a soldier’s funeral, Americans choose to treasure this symbol of a land that we love. Flag day is a great reminder.
