Tis the Time to Appreciate Dad

Father’s Day is coming soon, and you don’t have to spend a lot of money to show your Dad how much you love and appreciate him.  Here are a few ideas:

  1. Ask your Dad about his childhood.  Dad’s young and old like to reminisce about their childhood.  You can ask about what he did with friends; ask about a day at school—did he ever have something embarrassing happen or get in trouble?  You will likely learn something new, and your Dad will not only love that you’re interested, but also enjoy the trip down memory lane.
  2. Thank your Dad for his guidance.  Tell him specifics—what lesson has meant the most to you and why.  Let him know that you’re proud to be his Son/Daughter. Dads across the board want to be respected and honored.
  3. Cook for him—Have him over for dinner, bring dinner to him, make his favorite dessert and surprise him.  Who doesn’t enjoy a food surprise—especially made by you!
  4. Play a game with him.  Lots of laughs come when you’re playing a game together.  Consider a card game, board game or a simple outdoor game of catch.
  5. Make a handmade card with something personal inside.  You don’t have to be in elementary school to make a handmade card. Imagine your Dad’s sentiment as he receives the card made from his child—no matter the age.   It shows him you took the extra time to appreciate him.

Don’t let this special day go by without showing your love and appreciation.  With so many of us blessed to have our Dads around to show our gratitude, there are many others who have only memories to hold onto.  If this is you, think of something you remember about your Dad, and honor his legacy. If your Dad was a giver, find a charity and give an amount in honor and memory of him.  Think of anything that made him laugh or made him proud–go do that with a smile on your face and love in your heart.

We love you, Dads!
