Language Barriers Can’t Stop the Heart

“My trip to Panama was amazing and unlike any other trip I’ve ever been on. I was only there for a week but it was the best week ever. The thing that was most impactful to me was when we went to a local church and prayed with the people there. After my group had finished praying for 4 women one of them, an 85-year-old, grabbed my hands and began to pray for me and tell me that God will bless me and that I’ll always be in her heart. This woman reminded me so much of my grandma who recently passed away and it touched my heart tremendously. My favorite part of the trip was when we got to share our stories with other teenagers at local schools. It was so cool to relate with other kids just like us and be able to share some of God’s love with them.

The most difficult part of this trip for me was definitely the language barrier. It was tough not being able to understand and communicate everything with them. But I did learn that there is no language barrier to share God’s love with them because God is universal and doesn’t speak one language but all languages. I saw this most through the drama we performed. The drama had no words and was acted to a song in Spanish. It was a display of the love Jesus has for us and it was amazing to see the audience reaction to it and the fact that we didn’t need a translator to get the point across. My time in Panama was one to remember and it has impacted my life for sure. A piece of my heart will always be there.”
