Tax-Free Weekend!

It’s tax-free weekend!  You can save tax on clothing and shoes, plus many places are having “Back to School” sales for additional savings.  The average household spends around $500 on clothing and supplies when back to school shopping.  Here are a few questions you might have concerning tax-free weekend; the answers are applicable to Oklahoma.  Other states may differ.

~ When is it?  In Oklahoma, it is 12:01 a.m. (that’s 1 minute after midnight) Friday, August 2 through midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2019.

~What items are tax-free? Clothing and shoes are included as long as an individual item doesn’t exceed $100.  The sales tax holiday does not apply to clothing primarily designed for athletic use (dance shoes, cleated or spiked athletic shoes and ski boots), protective clothing and accessories.

~Are school supplies included? No, they are not.

~If I order online, does tax-free apply?  In most cases, the same items are tax-free with online orders.  Amazon participates in tax-tree weekend.  If you’re ordering from Amazon, be sure and support your favorite charity through their Amazon Smiles program.  Just click and find your charity (Mission Generation is on the list—hint, hint) Then, Amazon will automatically send a portion of your sale to that organization.

Happy shopping, everyone!
