There’s nothing better than a close friend! They are someone with whom you can share life’s greatest celebrations, as well as life’s deepest heartaches and disappointments. A friend is also the one who you look forward to spending your free time with, because they know the most about you and love you anyway. On this day to celebrate friendship, take the time to let that special friend know how they have enriched your life!
Speaking of friendships, consider this. Diversity in friendship can open up new experiences. We are all comfortable in our own little clicks; therefore, we tend to deprive ourselves of the unknown blessings that might be right in front of us.
People different from us are truly not as different as you think. You can build friendships on mutual talking points like children, marriage, and work to begin conversation with like interests. A different ethnicity or culture from your own can definitely change your prejudices and preconceived ideas. You become more tolerant of other people, and able to work better in team environments. You become open to understand each other as opposed to judging each other.
When you befriend someone different from you, you learn their traditions. If their families live abroad, you learn of their country. This may open up travel plans to explore their country for yourself.
We should dare to break out of our comfort zones and get to know someone who is different. It just might lead to celebrating this day with another great friend!
