Chaplaincy Abroad: Serving the Next Generation of Christ Followers

By: Madeline Dunham

Richard Pairumani is the chaplain at the educational unit of Vertino Candia. Richard is grateful to be a part of the Chaplaincy program with Mission Generation. He views the program as a huge blessing in his life because he can use his gifts to better society and continue the work of Jesus Christ. Pairumani’s counseling efforts have helped students solve personal problems and allowed students to enter a relationship with Jesus. At first, many people thought the work the chaplains were doing was purely religious. As time went on though, the chaplains were able to gain the trust of students, teachers and the area director. Pairumani and the chaplains he works with now have great respect for the work they do. They thank God profusely because the behavior of students has improved greatly. Depression was a large issue among students. Depressed students would rely on alcohol and drugs for satisfaction, but many of them are now relying on Jesus Christ for fulfillment. Pairumani and the other chaplains chose the specific location they are working at now because a student had recently taken her life before they started working there. They wanted to ensure that a tragedy like that would never again strike the educational unit of Vertino Candia. They continue working at the school weekly giving lectures and counseling. Richard Pairumani would like to thank Pastor Nicky González and Mission Generation for the opportunity to serve the next generation of potential Christ followers.
