Gifts of Love

It’s February, the month of love.  I’d like to propose that we look beyond the cupids and candy hearts.  Let’s get right to the “heart” of the matter.

Love is wrapped in many packages that don’t all look the same.  There is love all around you if you’ll take time to acknowledge it.

~One love might be small and adorable—a baby, a child, or a grandchild.  Reflect on the joy you receive from these small packages. Give them extra hugs; play with them giving them the gift of your time.

~What about the love that is a little worn and old with its own vintage charm—your parents or grandparents.  Let them know of your love for them. Give them an unexpected call just to say “I love you”.

~Another love might be wrapped in camouflage—a soldier either in your own family or one you see during the course of your day who is devoting their life to serving our country.  Tell them how much you appreciate their service.

~ Your love might look very familiar, not trying to impress you, but always there for you—a friend.  This kind of gift is valuable.  A text to these friends or a handwritten mailed card will make their day.

~Maybe there is a love covered in fur right in your home—your pet.  They are loyal and give unconditional love to you in your worst moments.  Perhaps an extra treat is due them.

~ Think about this love package—so big you couldn’t wrap it, so valuable you could never afford it, so life-changing words seem inadequate—your salvation, the love of Christ.  Give God thanks and praise for this enormous gift of love.

Love is so much more than just romance between two people.  Be grateful and make a list of the love surrounding you. After you’ve done this, go give some of this love away to others.
