Veterans – Valuable People, Valuable Stories

Pictured is my Son, David Corbett, during his deployment in Iraq serving with the Army National Guard 45th Infantry.

There are veterans in our midst every day.  If you are one, a big THANK YOU for your service to our great country!  You have proven that America is the land that you love.   We can’t take for granted our freedom that has been so well defended by you throughout our history.

This Veterans Day, think of someone you know who has served and sit down with them to hear their story.  Your interest will show great respect and honor to the veteran, plus you’ll enjoy what they have to say.  Ask them where they served and what happened there.  Ask them if a certain song takes them back to that time.  Ask them if they had a family during the time they served.  Find out if they stay in contact with any of their military buddies.  If possible, ask to see pictures they might have taken.

Celebrate veterans on the day set aside for them, but remember them all year long.  Pray for the safety of men and women currently serving.  When you see a soldier in uniform, express your thanks to them.  Keep in mind that freedom in this country is enjoyed because brave veterans have fought and even died for it on your behalf.

Here is a website, The Veterans Project, where individuals have interviewed veterans from all branches and all wars which are archived in the Library of Congress. https://www.loc.gov/vets/.  This website will also guide you if you want to participate and enter your interview with a veteran.  These stories are valuable pieces of our history as Americans.
