An Easter Movie For Everyone

One of the best ways to share the Easter message is to watch a re-inaction of Jesus’ life and resurrection. This is Easter activity doubles as a family movie night!

Easter is the time of year where we remember the price paid on the cross and and the resurrection of Christ. This year you have the opportunity to proclaim Jesus has risen to children in the U.S. and around the world by giving to Mission Generation!
According to teachers in Latin American up to 83% of their students respond to the message of salvation using our program. U.S. public and charter schools need
Mission Generation’s textbooks. Give NOW and every dollar you give becomes two!

Here are some Easter movies for every age group:

Easter Cartoons

There are several Easter kid’s movies out there, but so many of them talk about the Easter bunny and miss the true message of Easter about Jesus’ Resurrection.

Here are two cartoons, Twas the Night Before Easter and An Easter Carol, that talk about the true meaning of Easter.

The Jesus Film

The Jesus Film is a powerful and engaging Easter movie for kids of all ages, whether as part of Easter activities for kids, or any time of year.

The Jesus Film tells the whole story of Jesus’ life as told through the Gospel of Luke. It includes a poignant, accurate and powerful retelling of the Resurrection and the true Easter story, making it an excellent Easter movie to show kids.

It’s a classic Easter movie that’s perfect for kids of all ages! Share this Easter movie with your kids and talk about it afterwards as a family.

Son of God

Son of God is somewhere between The Jesus Movie and The Passion of the Christ in terms of the graphic portrayal of Jesus’ suffering; and that it remains fairly true to the biblical account of Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Risen

What makes Risen different from other Easter movies for families is that it shows the Resurrection from the eyes of a non-believer. I love that it’s described as a non-polished and gritty re-telling of the Easter story because, clearly, not everyone saw Jesus as the Messiah.

This Easter movie focuses on a Roman soldier’s need to understand more about who Jesus was and about how the Resurrection could have actually happened.

Risen is violent, but not as violent as The Passion of the Christ. However, I’d still recommend that parents preview this Easter movie for kids before watching it as a family.

The Passion of the Christ

The Passion of the Christ is equally powerful, but it definitely more graphic and is entirely in Aramaic.

While the Passion of the Christ is an incredibly emotional re-telling of the Easter story (and a great Easter movie), I would say it’s for kids at least 13 and up because of the violent portrayal of Jesus’ torture by the Roman authorities.

Use your discretion about if or when this Easter movie would be a good fit for your family. You might decide that this is more of an Easter movie for adults.
