Father’s day is almost here and it’s the perfect opportunity to show Dad your love!
Do you take an all-day trip to the mall, and stress over what to buy your Dad who seems to have everything? You end up buying something you feel like it just doesn’t really express your feelings of love in the right way. We invite you to try something new today instead of waiting until Father’s day; thoughtful ideas can be found in seizing a moment to say and demonstrate “I’m thankful for you, Dad.”
Here are a few easy, yet significant ways to show your Dad/Father of your children he’s loved!
1.ASK HIM ABOUT HIS CHILDHOOD
Nothing says “I care about you” more than showing interest in someone’s life. Ask your Dad about his childhood. Pull out an old photo album and let him share what moments were captured and what it meant to him. You’ll probably learn something new, and he’ll be glad you asked.
2. ASK HIM FOR HIS ADVICE
Your Dad has a lifetime of experience. Ask him for help in tackling a problem or making a big decision. This will benefit you, but also lets him know you value his guidance and counsel. You might be surprised at things you end up talking about.
3. ASK HIM OUT FOR A WALK
Is there any simpler joy in life than a quiet walk through the neighborhood? Invite your Dad along. It’s good for both of you in more ways than one. Leave your gadgets and digits at home so you can maximize your time together. It will also give you time to address the previous two ideas.
4. MAKE HIM HIS FAVORITE FOOD
As the saying goes, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Surprise your Dad/Father or your children with his favorite food or, even better, invite him to spend a little time in the kitchen baking it together or hanging out with you while you prepare it.
5. ASK HIM TO HELP YOU FIX SOMETHING
Dads are problem-solvers. Building, repairing, and making things is what most of them do very well. Ask him to break out his toolbox, but don’t walk away! Allow him to share his handyman knowledge and teach you the skills he has. You’ll learn and he’ll feel more needed than ever.
6. GREET HIM AT THE DOOR
Being warmly met at the door after a long day at work will be the highlight of his day. Let him know you’ve missed him and that you realize he’s out there giving his best to provide for you.
7. BOAST ABOUT HIM
Do you have the smartest, strongest, funniest, most caring, amazing Dad/Father of your children? Tell someone. Tell everyone. Make sure Dad is within hearing range. You could also rave about Dad on Facebook or Instagram post, attach a photo of him, and tag him, so he can delight himself in your words.
8. HIDE A NOTE FOR HIM TO FIND
Tuck a note into his shirt or coat pocket, his car, or his briefcase, a place you know where he will find it. When he finds your note, he will feel loved, it will make him smile, and may just turn his whole day around. It can be short and sweet like “Thankful that you’re my Dad” or “You rock”.
